In the Arms of the Cedar
In the year 1856, the astronomer Charles P. Smyth settled at the top of the mountain to conduct astronomical and meteorological studies for a few months. In the 20th century, Jean Mascart climbed to this same place to observe Halley’s Comet, and amazed by the climatic conditions of the area, proposed the creation of an internationally oriented observatory in Guajara.
At 2,718 meters, the Alto de Guajara or Montaña de Guajara is the highest peak in the amphitheater of Las Cañadas del Teide in Tenerife. It is the third-highest mountain in the Canary Islands, behind Teide and Pico Viejo, located in the same National Park.

• It is a circular route, with a significant ascent and elevation gain, starting our journey at the National Parador of Las Cañadas del Teide.
• At the top of Montaña de Guajara, we will enjoy one of the best landscapes offered by the Park: Las Cañadas, the plain of Ucanca, Pico Viejo, Montaña Blanca, and in front of us, a spectacular view of Teide in all its splendor.
